I am 28 years old and have a wonderful sex life with my husband. We keep trying all kinds of positions and both penetrative and non-penetrative techniques to achieve orgasms. But I am facing a problem. I feel dryness in my vagina, especially during lovemaking. We have long sessions in bed and try out a number of positions. I really like deep penetration so the woman on top and doggy style really work for me. But I am facing a major issue with these positions now because my vagina is getting dry. After a while, I start feeling discomfort more than pleasure and then it even starts paining. I find this very distressing. Can you please help?
Dear Lady,
The vagina is a self-cleaning and self moisturized organ. The acidic PH of vagina is maintained by the presence of Lactobacillus, a naturally present bacteria in the vagina. It keeps the vagina clean and prevents outside organisms from affecting it.
Estrogen keeps the vagina lubricated
Estrogen is a feminine hormone present in a female body from puberty till menopause. Estrogen is the female hormone that keeps the lining of vagina lubricated, thick and elastic. Vaginal dryness is a result of a decreased level of Estrogen in the body. It can be seen during childbirth, breastfeeding where estrogen levels go down temporarily. Some medicines like antihistamines or antidepressants or chemotherapy can also cause vaginal dryness. Presence of vaginal infections or heavy smoking can also sometimes make the vagina dry. At age 40 and beyond as estrogen level starts declining women notice that the lining of their vaginas become thinner, drier and less elastic. These changes due to menopause are known as vaginal atrophy.
Many women seek treatment for vaginal dryness
Research suggests that about 20 per cent of women in perimenopause and post-menopause seek treatment for vaginal dryness. However, the actual number of those experiencing the symptoms is thought to be closer to 40–50 per cent overall. Vaginal dryness can cause painful sex (Dyspareunia), frequent vaginal infections, frequent urination, bleeding during intercourse etc. Symptoms commonly associated with vaginal atrophy and vaginal dryness include vaginal itching, burning, and irritation. These vaginal changes make it easier for infections to occur.
Laser treatment for vaginal dryness
Vaginal dryness can be treated with the diet which includes having high quantities of Lactobacillus (curd, yoghurt), treating vaginal infections, estrogen cream or LASER VAGINAL REJUVENATIONS. LVR is a fast and effective treatment that uses multiple tiny columns of laser energy to stimulate collagen production and regeneration of normal vaginal tissue. It uses the same proven laser technology that has been used for the past 15 years to rejuvenate the sensitive skin of the face. The treatment takes around ten minutes and can be easily completed in a lunch break. This really helps to deal with vaginal dryness.
A swab is inserted into the vagina to dry the inside. After it is removed the laser probe is then inserted and you will feel a low grade vibration and warmth inside the vaginal canal which is virtually painless for most women. This process lasts around 5 minutes. The probe is then removed and the treatment is complete. In as little as 30 days after treatment, the regeneration of new tissue in the vaginal wall starts to build a naturally stronger, tighter structure and the protective mucosa recovers volume, hydration and elasticity.
Hope this helps.
